About

Welcome to Anime Revolution! This is a blog devoted entirely to reviewing Japanese anime based solely on the Bible. As a human, I tend to enjoy watching shows—specifically anime. As a Christian, I like to watch shows that are pleasing to God and live up to his standards. However, there is a significant lack of Christian morals in the anime realm. Most of the ethics are based upon Buddhist, Shinto, Pagan, or simply non-religious beliefs. This bugs me. And if it bugs me, it probably bugs some other Christians as well, so here I am writing a blog. This site is neither a “bashing” site nor a “fan” site. It is purely a tool to be used in searching for Christian anime.

Q: Now, some have asked, “Why review entertainment? It’s all just fantasy and make believe. It doesn’t affect people in their day-to-day lives.”

A: Oh-ho-ho-ho. You know how many times I’ve heard this argument? Puh-lease. The Bible says in Philippians 4:8 (KJV), “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good reports; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” In other words, think only on these things that are of God. If you are watching an immoral anime, then you are not thinking as God wants you to think. Proverbs 4:23 (ESV) states, “Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.” No life can spring if your heart is bound by immorality in what you watch. And, yes, what you watch does affect your behavior. It gets into your thoughts, your spirit, your everything. So guard your heart. “If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.” (Colossians 3:1 ESV)

Additional Verses:

  • Romans 14:19
  • Psalm 101:3
  • 1 Corinthians 10:31

Q: “Well aren’t there already Christian Anime Review websites?”

A: Yes, there are and I’ve checked them out. Sometimes they get it right, but to be honest, if a Christian website has a review stating that demons and evil spirits are okay to watch, then that review is not Christian and, I believe, is an embarrassment to God. And if you want more information on the scriptures behind why not, read the reviews for anime with demons in them. So, yes, there are other resources, but beware.

Q: “Well, you’re not God. How can you judge anime?”

A: It’s true, I’m not God. If I were, things would be a whole lot different (probably for the worst). However, I do have God’s Word—his “instruction manual,” if you will. Based upon the guidelines laid out in the Bible, it’s possible for ordinary people, such as myself, to know what is of God and what isn’t. Simple enough. Now, take into account that I am growing and as I discover new insights about, not only God’s Word, but also the Japanese culture, that I may go back and revise some reviews. So please, extend some grace to me.

Also note that I will not watch every anime that I review (that would take forever). Sometimes, it is possible to determine from the synopsis what the anime is going to be about and whether it’s worth watching or not. Sometimes, it’s not so easy to tell. Other times, I’ll watch maybe the first two episodes and just stop because it’s so horrible. I will let you know in the individual reviews if I stopped or didn’t even watch the anime.

So, I think that’s it. Again, this is a tool, so please use it wisely. And Enjoy!

Your blog is provocative, while at the same time not bringing judgmentalism into the equation. May the Lord grant you discernment and wisdom as what, how, when and why as your research develops. May you be protected from any defilement of the episodes, et al that you see. Proud of you girl!!!!

I have been a fan of anime for many years. When I watch anime or any other shows I always ask myself this question: would I want to invite God to watch this with me? I always get a answer from the Holy Ghost. I really enjoyed your website, thanks. You might want to check out K-on, Allison & Lillia, Kids on the Slope and From up on Poppy Hill.

    • Thank you for that. You have no idea some of the struggles I’ve been facing lately, so your encouragement is definitely an answer to prayer. Thank you also for the recommendations. I look forward to watching them and listening to what the Holy Spirit says.

Keep up the good work, i like it so far. And as for the name, what inspired you to pick that username?

This is just grate! Just the last few day´s I have been thinking about what I am watching. And it is kinda painfull to admit that not everything was or is good. But hey don´t we all who love to watch Anime or even read Manga go through this. I am struggling but it is greate to see that there are other Christians like me!😀 God bless you all!

    • Thank you for your comment. I know Exactly how you feel! That initial breaking point when you realize the anime you really enjoy watching isn’t something God would enjoy hurts SO MUCH!! >.< But I think that once you let it go and give it to God, there's a certain feeling of freedom that develops. As if a heavy weight has been taken off your shoulders. AND, I know from personal experience, your relationship with God improves. So hang in there. There's definitely a silver lining!

I like the things you bring up, but if I might contradict you on one point. When you are talking about anime with demons and evil spirits and them not being OK to watch, I think it entirely depends on the why they are presented. I mean, if I were to watch an anime, like so D. Dray Man, which is about killing and defeating demons, then I don’t see the problem with that; or for that matter the anime series Chrono Crusade, both of these animes have strong Christian ties to them and speak about the banishment of evil.

    • Tyler says:

      *like D. Gray Man

      • Tyler,
Thank you so much for your comment. I think you bring up an excellent point and I agree with you 100%. Anime that present demons and things associated with the devil in a negative light, are great and just the sort of anime I would love to watch. However, I’ve seen some reviews on other websites that said an anime with a demon as the protagonist is a positive thing and that is not okay. Likewise, if a demon-slaying protagonist does not submit to God and ultimately uses his/her own abilities (and maybe even demonic powers) to slay demons, that is also not okay. Good is good and evil is evil and the glorification of evil is primarily what I’ve seen in a lot of anime and on websites. Hope that makes sense.

      • onalisa smith says:

I’ve seen D Gray Man. And it’s really demonic… they talk about god, but who is this “god”… do not be deceived! The only way to get rid of a demon is by invoking the name of Jesus. There is only one way to heaven, and it ain’t through killing demons… it may have exorcisms in it, but come on! Listen to your conscience. You know that’s evil… no to be rude or anything…please don’t take offense. I fell into this before, and I don’t want anyone else to be deceived…

Thank you for making this blog! I like watching anime but I want to watch things that don’t glorify evil. Thank you!

Wow your’e blog rocks I’m a devout Christian and love to serve The Lord but it’s hard to find good anime and follow scripture do you have any suggestions if any non pornagraphic anime I should watch?

    • Check out my “Good Anime” page. Those anime have zero porn, fanservice, etc. in them. Also, I just recently watched an anime (my new favorite) called Akagami no Shirayukihime (Princess Snow White with the Red Hair) that has a great love story and absolutely zero nudity. I love it!!

  8. Era says:

Thanks for making this blog, I need guidelines.

I like to watch anime, however considering it is made in a place where Christianity isn’t well known. Almost all anime is filled to the top with unpleasant things.

Thanks for making this blog. I’m glad I’m not the only Christian who seeks good quality anime that God approves of.

  9. Just wanted to say, great blog! Love what you have so far. I recently got into anime thinking that it would not have as much bad content in it as, for example, Game of Thrones, Walking Dead, Sons of Anarchy, etc. But it can be just as lethal. Violence and sexual content are rampant in some shows. And I worry that my younger sister (who is 11) will be exposed to that kind of anime if I don’t read some reviews on the shows she and I watch. Glad you’re doing this! I’ve skimmed your reviews, and they are excellent. God bless!

    • Cris, I’m so glad you can see through the filth added into anime. It’s quite sick, no? I would caution you though to not just look out for your younger sister, but to also guard what you watch as well. Remember, as a Christian, you are an example to your sister, your friends, and to the world. Now that you have eyes to see, be careful what you expose to them. Ephesians 6:10

hello i’m Ian Pope i really like your idea about finding christian anime i think its a really good way to spread his word!

  11. Hi, it’s me again! (The girl from FB) Turns out I can comment here, lol.😄 (I didn’t see it before… FAIL) Quick question, are the two characters shown on the sides of the blog from Sword Art Online? Cuz they look like familiar… And if so, is it a good anime?

    • Hi Hannah, as you can see, I changed the background picture. The old one had two SAO characters, but after I went and reviewed it…well…I changed it. Now, I have no idea who the characters are in the background. This blog template can be really finicky and this was the only picture that worked well as a background. Haha! So if you know who these two ladies are, please let me know.

  12. Wow. You’re passion about this is awesome. I completely agree with you. I almost think we have this same way of thinking when we come to this topic. I have this same opinion about disney movies. They’re not all as innocent as they seem. Thanks so much for sharing this and check out my second blog here (you might seem interested in it🙂 ) : https://godscuriousprincess.wordpress.com/2014/08/17/parental-guidance-required-blog-2/

I got ideas of creating my own anime one day and i can draw really good but my ideas for the anime i will have violence but also will have some positive stuff to but if i want to change my life will i have to give up my dream of being a anime artist i mean if i was one with some the good money that i might i would also make a difference in peoples lives like charity and stuff .

    • Hi Pat, I think it’s great that you want to create your own anime. I have similar dreams, but I think you need to ask God about the direction He wants your anime to go in. I think your heart is in the right place, but I think you need to give your stories to God and see what He says. Speaking from personal experience though, if you give your stories to God, he will make them explode into something greater than you could imagine. Just saying.

      • Three7s says:

I agree. I have also had thoughts about making my own anime, and I feel like I’ve got a story in mind that gives glory to God, but the main obstacle in my way is the drawing aspect of it. I guess if God wills for me to do it, then a way will open up. Just have to be patient! Until then, I’ll just have to hope I can find some anime series that aren’t totally morally corrupt……

  14. Eddie Miller says:

I really admire what you’re doing. You have no idea how much it burns my toast that I can’t find anime that I, as a Christian, can watch. That’s why I’m going to be an animator, so I can create Christian anime and manga. Keep it up! ^v^

  15. Donna Peters says:

I am a mother of a 13 year old boy. Who recently has been asking if he can watch anime. His father and I have been hesitant about letting him. After watching a few shows our self to understand his interest, we have found that the content is not what we want him watching. Today we came across your site and tears are rolling down my face because I was able to share your blog with him and help him understand that this is just not a mommy daddy thing or us being mean Its a Christian thing. Its what God wants for us! Thanks for the scriptures they helped me have a conversation with him and he understood,( might not like it but he understood) Its hard raising Godly children when the world wants to offer him something different! Thank You Thank You Thank You!!!

    • Donna,
I’m not a parent, but I feel your pain in wanting to raise a generation in a godly manner. It IS difficult, but I am so proud of you and your husband for taking a stand and talking to your son about morality in entertainment. My parents did that with me and it opened my eyes to spiritual issues outside of entertainment in my day-to-day life. It may hurt now, but I think it will help your son in the long run. Keep the faith and keep on as the spiritual authority in his life!

  16. Sarah says:

But are there even any christian anime shows?😦 This is what i was hopping to find out lol

    • Oo! Oo! Sarah, I found something for you. Check out my Announcements page. I just posted some Christian resources there. There’s not much out there in terms of anime (Yet! I will make some someday), but there’s a great manga…

  17. Sarah says:

    YOUR BLOG IS AMAZING

    • shidoni777 says:

Hey Sarah, I deleted my blog, my heart just wasn’t in it, and I made it out the spur of the moment, however, I have gone back to what I’m good at, which is writing stories!

  18. Shae says:

oh my gosh your webpage is amazing i completely understand anime gods way!

  19. Hi! I would like to say thank you so very much for making this blog! I’m currently almost 14 years old and I have been looking for good anime to watch. I’ve noticed that a lot of them have nudity and way too much swearing (I’m okay with a little bit.) I haven’t been watching the best anime (such as Attack on Titan, Princess Mononoke, etc.) and I felt that the Holy Ghost was nudging me and saying: “Would God want you to be watching these things?” So recently I’ve ran into your blog and I absolutely LOVE the anime recommendations here! I feel blessed to see that other people feel the same way I do. And I appreciate the fact that you understand what Christians should and shouldn’t watch. I’ve honestly ran into too many people who never think twice about what they are watching. I was very discouraged. Until I found this blog! God gave us eyes so that we can see good, not evil.

To be honest your review just changed the way I think about animes. Before I wasn’t much of it, but since you mentioned some key points I did notice that watching unappropiate animes made me tolerant about other shows. Shows that specifically praise the devil. I am happy that I took my time to search through the web and find this website. You have grate pontial to be a pastor for the youth that have lost themselves in anime cultism. I’ll make sure to becareful on what I watch in future.

  21. Thanks for informing me about Bleach.

  22. I read your review of SAO and yeah it’s hard letting go of something. I really miss watching Disney stuff but after realizing how unwholesome the company is in general I had to try and not watch any of the material and it isn’t easy especially with the loads of fan art online.

  23. Donnella says:

I love this! I have a teenager who loves anime (we both enjoy it, actually). This is so inspiring and informative, thanks!
